Nabi: The Absence of Shabba and Doctor’s Skills
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasradine Nabi praised his players for their resilience in securing a victory while playing with 10 men. He also highlighted the disparity in quality between his current squad and previous Amakhosi teams.
Chiefs marked their return to form in the Betway Premiership with a 2-1 win over Richards Bay at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, even after encountering a player deficit in the second half.
Goals from Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez early in the second half clinched all three points, elevating Chiefs to sixth position in the league table.
In a post-match interview with SuperSport TV, the Chiefs manager remarked that while they celebrated the win, the overall performance fell short of the club’s high expectations.
“Winning isn’t everything; the process must be effective. This is Kaizer Chiefs. Our objectives are ambitious. Mentally, it feels good,” Nabi expressed.

Despite scoring twice, the Glamour Boys struggled to maintain control throughout the match, possessing the ball sparingly.
The Tunisian coach voiced concerns about the team’s inconsistency, drawing comparisons to legendary players such as Doctor Khumalo and Siphiwe Tshabalala.
“There are promising moments during the game, but we need more consistency. Our play, especially in the final third, must improve. While obtaining three points is crucial for the club, playing a half with 10 men is mentally draining. It feels rewarding, yet our process needs refinement. This is Kaizer Chiefs – consider the standards set by players like Tshabalala and Doctor Khumalo; that is the level we aim for,” reflected the former Young Africans coach.
In their match against the Natal Rich Boys, the Soweto giants had 18 attempts on goal, with only five on target and two resulting in goals.
Converting scoring opportunities has plagued Chiefs since the start of the season, leading to frustration among the team.
The Chiefs coach acknowledged this ongoing issue, which he attributed to various factors, including a lack of confidence among strikers, a problem that extends beyond just the Chiefs squad and is evident throughout the league.
“This is indeed a major concern for our team, affecting more than this single match. Teams are creating many chances without converting them, possibly due to strikers’ confidence or focus. However, we remain committed to improving our principles as we move forward.”
Following a home win and entering a busy schedule after an extensive international break, Amakhosi is now set to face another match against a KwaZulu-Natal team, hosting Royal AM this Saturday.
