TikTok removes over 600 000 videos created by SA users


As part of its attempt to improve user safety and well-being, TikTok has removed over 614 000 videos uploaded from South Africa-based accounts.

This was confirmed in the short-form video hosting service’s 2024 Quarter 2 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.

The 614 406 videos removed from SA-based accounts accounts put Mzansi in the Top 50 countries worldwide.

Egypt with over 2.7 million was the highest in Africa.

Completely banned

Of the banned videos, 98.7% were removed before users of the platform reported the content or account, and 88.4% of the videos that did not meet the community guideline requirements were removed within 24 hours.

In addition, the report revealed that 143 998 accounts had been completely banned for violating the community guidelines.

In other notable statistics, in June some 178 million videos were removed around the world.

‘Our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. We prioritise safety, well-being and integrity so that our community can feel free to create, make connections, and be entertained,’ stated the group.
