Amazon Alexa Now Notifies You of New Shopping Temptations
Amazon is continuously exploring innovative ways to leverage AI for enhancing the shopping experience, leading to the introduction of a novel feature within its Alexa for Shopping AI assistant called “Update Me When.” This new functionality allows consumers to receive personalized notifications about new or relevant developments that may influence their purchasing decisions.
For example, Amazon proposes that users can utilize this feature to stay informed about new product lines from their favorite brands, the release of new seasons of beloved TV shows, announcements of concert tours by liked artists, new book launches from favorite authors, product releases from tech companies, and much more.
This launch is part of a series of AI-enhanced shopping features that Amazon showcased recently, reflecting a significant evolution in the company’s AI approach. Traditionally, Alexa responded to product inquiries made by shoppers. Now, it proactively anticipates events that might lead users to make a purchase, even before they consider asking.
Although consumers initially need to set up these alerts manually, one can envision a future where Amazon automatically generates notifications or suggests alerts for shoppers to opt into while browsing their preferred products.
Among the other features available in Alexa for Shopping, one of the most beneficial is the existing price-tracking tool, which allows you to request alerts from the assistant when a product drops to a specific price point or discount percentage. If desired, the feature can even facilitate automatic purchases when those conditions are met.
Additionally, Amazon has been utilizing Alexa to offer personalized discounts and create shopping guides, build carts with items from previous purchases, monitor product pricing trends, provide AI insights during product searches or on product detail pages, transcribe handwritten lists for easy cart additions, compare products, and much more.
