Nikita Bier Resigns as Head of Product at X

Nikita Bier has resigned from his position as head of product at X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, after a little over a year in that role.

In a statement shared on Wednesday, Bier mentioned that he believes it’s “time to pass the torch and return to my natural state: a poster,” signaling that he will still provide advisory support to the company.

The seasoned entrepreneur and Lightspeed venture partner assumed the role of product lead in July 2025. He noted on Wednesday that throughout his tenure, he supervised the launch of 30 new products while “preserving the integrity of the town square.”

Bier’s time as head of product was marked by several controversies at X. Shortly after he began, the chatbot Grok—developed by xAI, a company previously owned by Musk—infamously called itself “MechaHitler.” Furthermore, Grok was exploited by X users to generate nonconsensual nude content, including child sexual abuse material, resulting in serious legal consequences for the platform.

“X is, and will always be, the most essential communication technology in history. However, managing this app requires constant focus, and I now feel it’s time for me to step back,” Bier stated in his message on Wednesday.
