One Dead and Multiple Injured in N2 Cash-In-Transit Heist

Durban – In a tragic incident, one person has lost their life and numerous others have been injured as a result of gunfire during a Cash-in-Transit Heist on the N2 northbound, near the NPC Cement Factory.

The victims of this armed robbery, which occurred shortly after 6 am on Tuesday, (4 February 2025), were found at multiple locations.

Emergency personnel from ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and Metro Police arrived at the site simultaneously.

According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, “The scene revealed that a cash-in-transit vehicle had been forced off the road and subsequently exploded by several suspects who then fled with its cargo.”

“Upon assessing the area, paramedics identified multiple injured individuals. A triage system was swiftly implemented, and additional ambulances along with Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to manage the incident,” he remarked.

“At the incident site, paramedics treated three security personnel with various injuries, who were stabilized before being taken to a nearby hospital in Durban.”

Jamieson further noted that about 500 meters from the primary crime location, three bus passengers heading to work also suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

These victims were stabilized by ALS Paramedics and transported to several hospitals across Durban.

Moreover, two individuals on the M1 Higginson Highway, near the N2 Bridge, were also treated for gunshot wounds.

They received care at the scene before being taken to a medical facility.

Furthermore, Jamieson disclosed that more injured individuals linked to the heist were found on Silverglen Drive in Chatsworth.

“Two women, believed to be in their 30s, along with a security officer, suffered gunshot and assault injuries,” Jamieson stated.

“Unfortunately, one woman in her 30s had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, with no further medical intervention possible from paramedics.”

“The other two patients were stabilized by ALS Paramedics prior to being transported to a hospital.”

Jamieson informed that SAPS had closed the N2 in both directions between the M7 and M1 Higginson Highway for their ongoing investigations.
