Tragic Collision: Minibus Taxi Strikes Traffic Officer Jabulane Collen Ndlovu
Mkhondo (Piet Retief) – A heartbreaking event occurred in Mpumalanga as traffic officer Jabulane Collen Ndlovu lost his life in the hospital after being struck by a speeding minibus taxi he was attempting to signal.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison expressed their condolences following the death of the 46-year-old officer.
This unfortunate incident took place on the N2 highway in Mkhondo on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, reported that Ndlovu was hit while trying to “stop the taxi” as part of a speed enforcement operation.
According to Mmusi, the taxi, which was en route from Ermelo to Piet Retief, disregarded the signal and ran over the traffic officer.
After sustaining severe injuries, Ndlovu was rushed to a medical facility, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Jackie Macie, the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, emphasized that this tragedy could have been averted had traffic laws been followed, urging drivers to “comply with the instructions of any law enforcement officer.”
MEC Macie also extended heartfelt sympathies to the mourning family of the traffic officer.
The police are currently pursuing an investigation into the case as a possible culpable homicide, although no arrests have been made thus far.
