Devastating Incident: Minibus Taxi Strikes Traffic Officer Jabulane Collen Ndlovu
Mkhondo (Piet Retief) – Tragedy struck Mpumalanga as a traffic officer, Jabulane Collen Ndlovu, passed away in the hospital following a collision with a speeding minibus taxi he was attempting to signal.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison conveyed their condolences over the loss of the 46-year-old officer.
This unfortunate event occurred on the N2 highway in Mkhondo on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, shared that Ndlovu was struck while “trying to stop the taxi” as part of a speed enforcement initiative.
As per Mmusi, the taxi, traveling from Ermelo to Piet Retief, failed to stop and ran over the traffic officer.
After sustaining serious injuries, Ndlovu was swiftly taken to a medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Emphasizing that this tragedy might have been avoided if the law had been observed, the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, called on drivers to “adhere to the directives of any law enforcement officer.”
MEC Macie also extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family of the traffic officer.
The police are currently conducting an investigation into a case of culpable homicide, but no arrests have been made thus far.
