X Launches Vertical Video Feed for Users Worldwide
Elon Musk’s X has begun the global rollout of its dedicated vertical video feed just days after its initial launch in the U.S., as confirmed exclusively by TechCrunch with the company.
On Friday, TechCrunch noted that the new feature was visible in several regions outside the U.S., including India, Australia, and various European markets. An X spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the global rollout of the vertical video feed is currently “in progress.” Users can find the new feature in a dedicated tab within the X app, located prominently next to the Grok button.
The spokesperson also indicated that the rollout is limited to iOS users at this time, which means Android users will have to wait a bit longer. (The company did not provide a specific timeline for the Android release.)
Earlier this week, X introduced its vertical video feed in the U.S. amidst uncertainty regarding TikTok’s status in the market due to a potential ban. Enforcement of the ban is currently paused as President Trump extended the deadline for TikTok to negotiate a deal that would either transfer some control to a U.S. entity or lead to a full divestment of its U.S. operations to safeguard national security interests.
Beyond entertainment, the new video feature also allows X to display ads after users scroll through a few short videos. This strategy helps the company generate additional revenue by maintaining user engagement with video content — a common approach seen across social networks like Instagram, TikTok, and others.
Video experiences have become increasingly important for X overall. Last year, the platform launched a dedicated TV app to showcase videos from creators and organizations. Additionally, X permitted users in 2022 to browse short videos by tapping on a video in their timeline and swiping up.
