Manqoba Mngqithi and Kaizer Chiefs saga finally ending?
Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be pressing ahead with plans to secure the services of a new coach next season.
Arthur Zwane was in-charge at Chiefs last season, before being replaced by Molefi Ntseki ahead of the current campaign.

To the majority of the Chiefs fan base, Ntseki was already an unpopular appointment, with no positive track record. Prior to taking over the first-team reigns, he had never coached a senior professional side. He did, however, coach Bafana Bafana after Stuart Baxter, before being fired for failing to qualify for AFCON 2021. The duo reunited as part of a new structure at Amakhosi, which put him in charge of football development.
Ntseki did not last long as Chiefs coach, however, being sacked before even the halfway mark of the season. This came after an unconvincing start to the campaign which also saw them knocked out of two cups. After being relieved of his duties, the club appointed Johnson to take over on an interim basis. Coincidently, Cavin Johnson also came into the club in a developmental role, before being asked to steady the senior ship.
Mngqithi was a rumoured Chiefs target
A run which saw Chiefs winning three of their last four games of 2024, saw Johnson in with a shout. But now according to the latest, the club are back looking at other candidates. It was reported on this website that the club had earmarked two local candidates for the job. Those being Pitso Mosimane, the lead candidate, as well as Manqoba Mngqithi.
It was reported last month that Mngqithi was happy at Mamelodi Sundowns and was negotiating a new deal. But it was equally reported that Chiefs were still interested. The last update, however, was that the club had moved on from him, as they seek an international coach instead.
Mngqithi’s agent also confirmed that Chiefs contact with the coach. But he was now at an advanced staged of negotiations with Sundowns.
Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Mngqithi is close to putting an end to the Chiefs speculation. This is because he has agreed a deal in principal with Sundowns.
Set to commit to Sundowns
“The three-year agreement between the coach (Mngqithi) and the club (Sundowns) is imminent. We can say it’s as good as done at the moment. You see there were talks before the Nedbank Cup semifinal game against Stellenbosch FC and also after that and things were sorted out. I can say it’s almost 90% or above at the moment. The coach will stay at the club until June 30, 2027 for now. There was no doubt about that but there were other loose ends which had talks to be tied and they are almost done now. The coach is happy and the club is happy so what can stop them? Nothing, I guess,” said the source.
Chiefs were already rumoured to have moved on from Mngqithi. The coach also seems happy and comfortable at Sundowns.
